Elimination on Bayou
Live on Raw from Lafayette, Louisiana's Cajundome, Unified Tag Team Champions Triple H & HBK lead the DX army into battle against U.S. Champ The Miz & Big Show plus CM Punk & Luke Gallows in a Triple Threat Elimination Match for the titles.

Speeding Into Raw
Six days before the NASCAR Sprint Cup series kicks off, driver Carl Edwards makes a pit stop in Lafayette, La., to guest host Raw. Edwards is a huge WWE fan and is close friends with WWE Superstar John Cena. Where will his allegiances lie?

I wouldn't know any NASCAR drivers if I passed them on the street (unless they were speeding past in their NASCARs...) but that should be a good three way dance.

Well, the last time they had NASCAR drivers on, it wasn't so bad since they really limited their appearance during the show.  I expect the same will happen with Carl Edwards.

I'm actually expecting DX to drop the titles tonight to further Michaels' heel turn.  If I had to pick a winner, I think the SES would be the more likely of the two challengers.

Well, I was half right.  I'm really surprised ShowMiz won.  Wasn't expecting that at all.

Actually, I think HBK nailed both Long and Carlito.  Both went down at the same time.

EDIT:  Sweet Christmas!  It's Purps!

End of the show and it's time, once again, for Raging's Random Thoughts:

* This episode of RAW struck me as odd with the way the matches took place.  We start out with a Champion vs. Champion match, then the only advertised match from last week, then a 2-minute (if that) Diva match, Orton/Rhodes, and finally a Cena destroying Dibiase which led to a Cena/McMahon/Bret Hart ending.  The last image we saw was of Bret causing random destruction, which I felt came off rather flat.

* Let's get to the matches; first up, Sheamus vs. Christian.  Christian surprised me, tonight simply by showing up.  There was the promo and finally the match which was actually good but the ending bothered me, not because Sheamus won but because he won cleanly.  I felt that really stepped all over what was left of ECW despite that's where Sheamus came from.  If there was a dirty tactic or three, it would have looked better.

* The triple elimination match was the best match of the night for its shear length.  However, the comment that the match was a war kind of fell flat considering it came right after two commercial breaks.  Sort of like a "really, Mike?  I wish we could've seen it."  I was utterly shocked the SES were the first eliminated.  I didn't expect Big Show to get the titles back so soon but at least Miz gets to carry around 3 belts now.  Bling!

* The segment afterwards showing HBK's heel turn was done pretty well.  I'm surprised that Carlito and Alicia were present for it.  HBK has done well so far.

* The Divas match was far too short.  Maybe if they didn't play that silly "after RAW" footage twice, the two-minute match could have been a five-minute match.  It's a shame when WWE has two of their best female workers in the ring and they don't get to show the audience what they can do.  The Maryse segment alone was about as long as the actual match.  Don't get me wrong, I love that RAW actually is giving the Divas a storyline but the matches really need to be longer.  By the way, what the hell did Maryse say in French?

* The Rhodes/Orton match was good and it left things inconclusive, which was also good.  Sheamus' interference and Cody's late save will make good story elements later on.

* I'm not sure how I feel about Cena just outright destroying Dibiase in squash-like fashion.  It seemed to deflate the show and the elimination chamber match since Cena so easily did away with Ted.

* The last promo segment, I'm guessing WWE thought it would be a big hit but honestly felt flat.  The bit between McMahon and Cena was good but Bret coming out and causing random acts of destruction around the ring just didn't really do anything to cause excitement.  The crowd seemed to be flatter than it should have been.

* The guest host tonight was actually pretty good.  Definitely the most lively NASCAR racer that's been on RAW.  The segments were short but had impact.  So good job by him.  Really didn't expect Jared from the Subway commercials at all.  So, he was an added bonus.

* Hornswoggle was the opening part of the show.  Well, at least his role was very short.  I wonder what will happen to him after DX dissolves?

Overall, the show was slightly above "meh".  So I give it a 6.5 out of 10.

I know Vince wouldn't do it because he doesn't like ECW or Christian, but there should be some type of match that unifies the ECW title with the WWE title or the World title and just let it get absorbed into one of those belts. Then Christian (who would not have a shot at winning) could go to WM in the MITB ladder match.

Well, I read one translation of what Maryse said in French, tonight.  Apparently, she said:

"Gail, I just wanna say that you smell garbage at a 100-feet around...seriously, you stink ! You look like a poor little girl, I have pity for you. You're miserable."

Hahahaha! Short! Geddit?!

My opinion on this week's RAW seems to differ from what's been said so far. I didn't think there was a bad thing on the show. Next week's matches look okay, so hopefully the rest of the night keeps this standard going as far as I'm concerned.

Carl Edwards is so much more charismatic and entertaining than the other NASCAR hosts. He can come back any time.

Great reception for Christian, even if Michael Cole couldn't have sounded less excited to see him. And he had a good opening match with Sheamus, probably earning some new fans before he signs with one of the two main brands.

but the ending bothered me, not because Sheamus won but because he won cleanly.  I felt that really stepped all over what was left of ECW despite that's where Sheamus came from.  If there was a dirty tactic or three, it would have looked better.

Sheamus is the champ on RAW and he's the one heading into a big main event at the upcoming pay-per-view. It made sense for him to get a convincing win (he certainly needed one), and being a big guy, I don't think it hurt Christian at all. The announcers were putting over the ECW Champion throughout the match, despite what I said about Cole when he arrived.

there should be some type of match that unifies the ECW title with the WWE title or the World title and just let it get absorbed into one of those belts.

Agreed on this. If not for having another episode or two of ECW left to air, this match could have been title versus title and moved higher up the card to reflect that. Maybe we'll still see it happen on the final show.

Back to this week, I like how RAW showed the very same "exclusive footage" that SmackDown aired last week. How ridiculous to still call it that.

Missing: The Miz's head. Last seen being clotheslined off his shoulders by Triple H. Which is ironic, as The Game's usually more concerned with cutting midcarders' legs out from under them...

Good backstage segment with DX and Teddy Long. I'd wondered why the SmackDown GM was there, as Punk/Gallows seemed like a weak cover story all along.

By the way, what the hell did Maryse say in French?

I had a feeling that Maryse's French wasn't as complimentary as her English.

The Million Dollar Man in the Hall of Fame is a no-brainer. He should have already been in there.

Jerry Springer looks a good ten years older since I last saw him. Which was probably about a decade ago.

Good stuff with the Legacy tension as always.

Another excellent scene between Vince and Cena. Bret going on a tipping-things-over rampage was a bit awkward though. I was holding out for him to say something when he headed back towards the ring, but we just got more tipping over of things. I'm assuming they were trying to play off his immediate reaction to what happened in Montreal, but I agree with earlier comments that it came off rather flat. It's perhaps partly down to the crowd's unfamiliarity with Bret, as they didn't give the pop you'd expect when the WrestleMania challenge was made and accepted. Not that I believed for a second it was going to take place, and maybe they felt the same way.

I watched it on YouTube because I had nothing else to do.  Don't know if I would say it was good because it wasn't anything special as usual, but it wasn't as bad as past Raws recently.  I enjoyed Christian/Sheamus more than the triple threat tag.  Christian is as consistent as HBK, Rey, and Jericho right now.
