MLW Gets TV Deal
« on: March 26, 2003, 08:23:35 PM »

In what I see as a positive note for those with Direct TV (me not included! mad.gif ) comes this note:

Major League Wrestling, Inc. ("MLW") and the Sunshine Network have reached an agreement for the weekly television series MLW Underground(SM) which will begin airing in the network?s Monday night time period (11:00PM-12:00AM, ET/PT) with replays through out the week starting April 7th, it was announced today by Court Bauer, owner of MLW.

The Sunshine Network currently reaches several million homes throughout the state of Florida and nationwide via satellite including on DirecTV and the Dish Network.

Bauer adds: "In the last two years there has been a critical void left by the demise of ECW and acquisition of WCW. However, beginning Monday, April 7th, this will change as MLW brings fans the most violent, hard-hitting action mixed with cutting edge storylines creating a counter culture attitude that only MLW can deliver to its rabid fans."

MLW Underground(SM) also marks the return to the broadcast booth by the noted former ECW commentator Joey Styles. "Since ECW went bankrupt in early 2001, there has not been a hard-hitting and edgy professional wrestling product on television. For whatever reason, even approaching WrestleMania, fans are tuning out WWE in droves. MLW hopes to be the alternative those dissatisfied and disenfranchised fans are looking for. Short on soap-opera storylines and long on real in-ring action, Major League Wrestling will demonstrate the difference between "professional wrestling" and "sports entertainment" I am very excited about calling the action for MLW," states Styles.

Over the course of its existence, Major League Wrestling has developed an intense following with an innovative combination of wrestling and mixed martial arts styles called "Hybrid Wrestling" including: hardcore wrestling, traditional wrestling, Japanese "Puroresu" Strong Style, Lucha Libre, Shoot Wrestling, and more. MLW is the most graphic, destructive and real version of professional wrestling you will ever view.

Starting April 7th, witness the evolution of MLW's brand of Hybrid Wrestling on a weekly basis with MLW Underground(SM).

MLW also can be seen on Japan's Gaora sports cable network with its frequent 2-hour specials.

Be sure to check out www.MLW.com to get all the latest info on Major League Wrestling and the Underground(SM).

MLW: This is Hybrid Wrestling.

The next good competetion wave is begining to build for the WWE.

Although we won't see it in my country, I'm excited that another wrestling promotion has gotten a TV deal in the States. I don't know if it'll really be 'competition' to WWE, but it will be a great alternative for a lot of fans who feel like there's something missing right now. Best of luck to them!

BTW, interesting choice of time slot.

Hmmm...I see the formative stages of the second era of "The Big 3" taking place.  Although, I thought that XPW would somehow be at the national level by now.  Anyway, with NWA TNA growing more popular with each passing week, and MLW securing a television deal, these two promotions could take the spots in the Big 3 left vacant by ECW and WCW.  Hopefully, NWA TNA will get a national television deal soon and the Sunshine Network will get to basic cable soon as well.  This way we can view all three promotions on a weekly basis.  Obviously this won't happen overnight, but I say that by this time next year, at least NWA TNA will be very strong competition for WWE and hopefully MLW will be as well.  Then maybe Vince will get the creative juices flowing again....

I'm no expert on the smaller promotions, by any means, but from what I've picked up, XPW are not in a great position financially. They lost their exclusive rights to Viking Hall, and haven't been drawing as many fans to shows in areas in which they've previously thrived. Plus, I hear Shane Douglas is worse than Triple H is accused (happy, SavageRulz?) of being, in terms of booking himself in boring feuds above everyone else, using his creative stroke (he's the actual booker) to push himself unjustifiably for this period of his career.

So although they may be one of the more famous names in the American wrestling scene right now, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're on the verge of national success. But like I said, I'm not an authority on the indy scene, I'm just relaying the information I've been given.

I know all that Headdy, that's why I said "I thought" XPW would be a the national level by now, meaning that I was wrong about XPW and that I could very well be wrong about my above predictions.  No sweat, though.  I appreciate your relaying what you know. :)

Oh and just because I feel the way I do about "Triple H bashing" doesn't mean you have to walk on egg shells when speaking about him in my presence...but it is nice to know you are considerate of my feelings!  I'll stop now before this gets too mushy....... :)

The Sunshine network? I have DirecTV and I've never heard of it. Weird. Still, how the hell did a wrestling show get a deal with a TV network called "The Sunshine Network".
