Heres a little bit of info that was printed in my local paper:

New games don't get much bigger than the latest in the super cool Grand Theft Auto Series. Previous game Vice City had 80's music and settings. San Andreas promises early 90's chic with the same character Carl Johnson. The plot is only sketchy so far but we know carl has to go home only to be framed for murder. So he embarks on a journey that takes him accross San Andreas to save his family and clear his name. In shops from October

Heres a little screenshot that was included in the paper: (its a bit rough, but you can see it well enough.

A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.

Early 90s? Cool. That's the first time I've heard the time it's supposed to be set in.

From what I can see in the screenshot, it looks like we get to play as either a black dude or a latino dude. So that's good. It'll silence anyone that complains about the GTA dude always being white.

Can't wait for the game.

Oh..oh!

Early 90s?  I have a feeling the rock stations in the game will be playing stuff like Enter Sandman or Smells Like Teen Spirit, then.  :-/

Just a random comment.

Probably. It'll probably play early gangsta rap (like NWA), grunge (lots of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Alice In Chains), and a lot of alternative music. I'm just guessing at what it'll include, but I think that's what some of it will be like.

It's perfectly cool with me. Music from that era is my favorite.

I'm hoping for some Salt 'n' Peppa, personally.

I've seen quite a few screenshots from this game and it looks great. Also - get this - San Andreas isn't a city, it's a whole freakin' state! There are going to be three main cities, each as big as Vice City, and a whole lot of countryside inbetween. So the playing field for this game is going to be huge.

On the basis of the BMX, a magazine I read is also speculating - though speculation is all it is - that the whole place will be built in such a way that it becomes a giant Tony Hawks-like sub-game, with stunts off the scenery, etc. Imagine that! But again, it's only one mag's speculation.

So, it's going to be like GTA III only bigger? GTA III has one big city, but it's divided into three big parts. Liberty City in GTA III was probably about twice the size of Vice City even though they claimed Vice City would be bigger.

Still, that sounds sweet as hell. I love discovering new areas and little nooks that are great for sniping or cover from police, so it should give me plenty of places to look.

I can feel the anticipation building up in me. I should probably ignore all GTA stuff until shortly before it comes out so I'm not going crazy for most of the year. :-/

Yeah, the bad thing about hype is that the end result can rarely live up to it. The great thing about GTA III was that nothing was said about it until BAM, it was here and everyone was blown away. And Vice City was well-received because no one expected another game so soon, and although it wasn't miles ahead of its predecessor, it didn't matter because it had no hype to live up to.

San Andreas, on the other hand, has a hell of a task in pleasing all of the GTA fans who are now expecting so much.

I'm sure there are going to be a lot of disappointed fans, but I think I'm going to love it. As long as the game doesn't go below GTA III, I'll be happy with it.

I hope they add a bunch of extra things though. When I say that, I don't just mean more vehicles and mission types. I'm saying that I hope they add more odd codes and easter eggs. The odd codes (like driving on water in VC) and easter eggs (like the Reagan poster in VC) can really add to the game. It gives you more to do than just drive around and complete missions.

I was just wondering why you'd make the link between Salt 'n' Peppa and the likelihood of me being "a brotha."

I think what they meant by 'same character' was that the character would be a 90's style person too. I could be wrong though.

But theres more:

·   New Ragdoll physics
·   Carl Johnson is able to eat! There’s a stamina meter, and if you eat too much, Carl gets fat and you have to exercise in their gym to lose weight. People on the streets jeer you with names like “fat bastard.”
·   You’ll able to burglarize homes, but it takes skill
·   New ways to jack cars
·   There’s a mountain in the game
·   In the Las Vegas-type city, you can buy and casino and gamble
·   In the countryside, there are communities filled with people
·   You’re able to enter most buildings, furnished in detail
