As some already knew, this June will see the WWE brand extension taken a step further when the RAW franchise adopts a pay-per-view as its own. More interesting, though, is that the King of the Ring name and concept has been dropped in favor of the name 'Bad Blood'.

This is bound to cause confusion for new fans in the coming months and years, since the event which hosted the first ever Hell in a Cell match (Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker) was called "Badd Blood". So new fans are now expected to get their heads around the following logic:

Bad Blood replaced King of the Ring in June 2003, except in 1997, when Badd Blood and King of the Ring both happened, only that was "Badd" with two D's, and it was held in October.

One more footnote for wrestling historians to labor themselves over...

Well, i think there must be some good plans for this pay per view, as they're taking the change of a pay per view name, which to me is a big deal. The name "Bad Blood" really doesn't cry out to me, where as King Of The Ring i was always intrigued on to who will fight at Sumerslam and get a deserved WWE Title shot. Well, maybe the writers thought that it was getting a bit too predictable as to who would win it, so therefore the event will be less exiting, who knows?

Well i for one am not impressed with the name change one bit

PPV names are a dime a dozen. It really doesn't matter what the name of the show is, so long as you have a solid card and great entertainment planned for the event. Anyway, I always liked the name "Bad(d) Blood" so I am glad to see them using it again.

As for the King of the Ring, well...the tournament lost its luster in the last couple of years. Don't get me wrong, it has nothing to do with who won the tournament, as Kurt Angle, Edge, and Brock Lesnar are all top notch wrestlers, but the focus of the PPV seemed to be more on the other matches than the actual PPV namesake tournament itself!

Just because they get rid of the KOTR ppv, doesn't mean the KOTR tounament has to die. If you look at the ppv, the tournament had become secondary any way. It used to be the focus and main event of the card. Now it was the midcard match. I say let the tourney be held between Raw and SD!. Each show holds a tourney of 8 guys. Then the last Raw guy can Face the last SD! guy to be crowned KOTR. That match can be on a ppv or they could alternate it from year to year between the shows.
