How would you guys feel...

...if I dropped the main site?

Basically, I really don't enjoy doing it. The only reason I made it was because it seemed like "the thing to do" to help support the forums - I never, ever actually wanted to be a reporter. I just did it with the aim of attracting the new members that everyone's been calling out for.

But now we have a new inlet for new visitors - one which may prove to be more effective, and certainly more efficient. Since I've gone back to writing columns, Niel helped me to realize that posting them on multiple sites provides a very useful marketing tool. If I post on many different websites - sites that are already popular - and include a nice link at the bottom of every column, then that's a pretty wide audience that these forums can potentially attract. Assuming, of course, that people read my columns. But hey, who doesn't love Written Off, right? ;)

So what I'm saying is, I'd rather not continue slogging away at the WrestleXpress newsboard on my own, especially when there are other ways of bringing new people onto the forums. But it all depends on how you guys take to the idea. I'm not going to give up on the main site if you don't want me to. But if you don't mind, or you really don't care, then I'll give it up as a bad job and get on with attracting new members in other ways.

Thanks to anyone who has been supportive of the main site, by the way. Please don't think that I don't appreciate that - I do, very much so. If the site is dropped, I'd like to think that SavageRulz and other "going-to-be" columnists will continue their writing on other sites, maybe even joining the publicity campaign and helping to attract even more visitors to these forums. However that's not my decision, of course.

Anyway, getting back to my original question: How would everyone feel about this?

So if you dropped the main site, I guess waiting for a month for the forums to be back up was just a nice vacation eh?

I say drop it if you don't like doing it. I always assumed that you did it because you wanted to. If you hate doing it, I don't think you will continue if we tell you too. Besides, I never really go to the main site. I usually just go to the forumns. Sometimes I'd read the columns, but they would be much better as forum topics! So, I say dump it if you don't want to do it.

Headdy, to be honest, I think you should just have a specific folder on the forums for "Headlines" with all of the latest wrestling news in. This way the "main site" can stay here but in forum type, if you see where I am coming from.

Thanks for the feedback from those who replied. I've now made my decision and, as evidenced by the lack of recent updates, that decision is to drop the main site. From now on, the forums are the main site, as perhaps they always should have been.

It's not a decision I've made lightly. I had high hopes for WrestleXpress.net and although it's only been a little over a month since launch, I've come to realize that those hopes placed too high a demand on my time. Furthermore, I hated being a news reporter even more than I expected I would. That's not a knock on the task itself, because I know some people get a lot of satisfaction out of it, but not me.

The best that the site could have accomplished was to become, with a bit of luck, another popular wrestling news site. But I don't see the point in doing something others are already doing, if you're not going to be the best at it. Especially if you don't enjoy it. So I've turned my attention to a new project, which will offer something original to the Internet wrestling fan. I'll save details on that for another time, except to specify that due to its nature, it cannot be directly related to these forums as WrestleXpress.net was.

This is not to say, however, that the WX Forums are not my number one priority, for they always have been and remain so. I want to take this time to thank everyone who has been committed to continually making these forums as good as they can be. I initially set this place up because we needed somewhere to go after leaving WrestlingMania, with the hope that it would be a group effort to make things work. Someone's name had to go on the dotted line, and it happened to be mine, but I've always considered this a shared venture among those of us who really believe in it. At this point, those who don't or have lost faith in WX can take a hike as far as I'm concerned - from now on, I for one will be catering for those who care about WX, and who genuinely want to be here and to help it succeed.

Meanwhile, I will continue writing my column for various sites around the Web, plugging these forums with every post. I will also continue poking my friendly nose into other forums, just to bring the WX link in my sig back into view. Hot Bot will continue to feud with Googlebot over the affections of ALICE, gradually boosting our presence in the major search engines. And SavageRulz will continue to spawn relatives who can register and post.

In short, the "main site" is dead, long live the main site - the WX Forums. And if you ain't down with that, I got two words for ya.....

Personally, i think you should keep the site going? Who gives a rat's behind if you don't like it? huh? do you think people are suppose to like what they do? NO! Geez, I'd love to live in your fairy tale fantasy land! So work it off until your pointer finger falls off damn it!

**realizes he is some 2 weeks too late**
