  • Megaupload was shut down, because the company spit in the face of the law.  It openly provided an exchange where they knew copyright material was being traded and did nothing about it.

Companies, like YouTube on the other hand, have taken a more proactive role that has still allowed an exchange of information, but worked within the parameters of the law.

How is that true. Files were always being removed from Megaupload. And trust me if you browse through the most recent videos of Youtube (although they've removed the ability to do this now unless you enter a specific search term) then you'll see how much illegal stuff is uploaded there too. And I'd hazard a guess that there's a lot more hosted on there that's unlisted. Tons of porn on Youtube too.

They've done that thing where it detects music automatically now and removes it from the video, which has ruined tribute videos everywhere, those evil copyright infringers. But even that has just meant people post loads of slightly sped up or slowed down versions of the song to get around it.

YouTube remove any infringing file that's reported (as well as those automatically detected), whereas Megaupload only pretended to. They deactivated the reported link, but kept the target file online with lots of other, different links pointing to it.

  • I like how this happened just in time for 2 UFC fights I'm looking forward to in the next 2 weeks and the Royal Rumble which I wanted to watch and then carry on watching after ready for Wrestlemania.

It's like they didn't even consider my needs at all the selfish fucks.
