    Kicking Off 2012
One week after being pinned by the showoff in his own hometown, WWE Champion CM Punk faces Dolph Ziggler with the title at stake on the first Raw SuperShow of 2012.

There'll also be some reaction you'd presume to Kane's promo last week, where he encouraged John Cena to "embrace the hate."

AND, it's the landing date for whoever's return has been at the heart of those cryptic promo videos. Most commonly assumed to be The Undertaker, but just about everyone who's ever wrestled in WWE has had their name brought up by online speculation over the past few weeks. Chris Jericho? Skip Sheffield? Mantaur? All will be revealed to kick off the new year.

"It Begins" is obviously John Laurinaitis just to show how exciting and unpredictable he can be.

I just hope Ziggler isn't being used to establish a new tradition. The first RAW of 2011 saw the end of John Morrison's push when he lost a WWE Title match to The Miz. If Dolph's career takes a similar nose dive I'ma pop somebody.

Wait, maybe "It Begins" is for John Morrison, and the girl who will foretell his arrival is Melina! Now I'm excited. Let's do this.

You missed the point of the entire segment if you think he's playing a fan-ass kissing face.

I'm having a hard time getting into the Jericho return, mostly because he's been such an asshole on Twitter. I know that those two things should be separate but I can't seem to separate them.

Didn't really care about Jericho coming back until he faked doing a promo. Face to heel in the span of minutes.

    Hmm...

I mean I got pretty early on that he was hamming it up and being like a ridiculously over the top generic face and stuff (he basically stole Evan Bournes gimmick). But then I thought he'd grab the mic and be like "fuck you all" or something. He just walked off. Which was funny, but more in a "seriously?" kind of way. I guess I was just waiting for a secondary surprise, maybe the reveal of the woman, or one thing I thought while I was watching was that those two kids would appear again and be like "no..." and then the REAL return would happen.

So now I don't know if this was a set up to him calling the fans morons at some point down the line and he was mocking them, or if his gimmick will be that he thinks he's the returning hero but no one actually likes him.

His return thing was pretty cool anyway, made me excited. Stole the sparkly jacket from Michael Jackson though, but he's a fan so I guess that's ok.

Kane stuff at the start was cool (as in the recap, because I didn't see last week) - I think he's way more interesting now than without the mask, it changes his whole energy. Cena promo sucked. Skipped the rest, but the end looked cool.

I was hoping there was something more too.  I don't remember that being done before but thought they'd follow it up later in the main event to make it feel bigger.  I was kind of hoping it wasn't Jericho because it doesn't feel like he's been gone that long.  Oh well.  Now we know and I don't have to watch next week.  My brother was up anyway so I watched it live and being forced to sit through divas matches and Swagger is the worst thing ever.

I watched Jericho return and turned it off. I so don't like wrestling anymore.

The big "return" was a big snoozefest..... That statement applies to most of the show come to think of it.. with the glaring exception of CM punk.. as usual...

  • Jericho was hilarious, the funniest thing I've seen in WWE all year. Only he could do that with such sincerity for so long. Brilliant set-up for a new run.

I'd been expecting the "It Begins" reveal to be a tried and tested return for The Undertaker, and I'm relieved it wasn't as I'd like the Deadman's reappearance to be a surprise.

The Kane stuff at the end was cool, but his promise of making Cena "personally witness the true power of hate tonight" left me hoping for something different. Something, you know, relevant to that statement. Like making Cena frustrated with his partners for losing a handicap match where they had the advantage. Or making Ryder blame Cena for their loss. But it turned out I was reading too much into what was really just a general threat to beat up Cena and his buddies.
