Christmas 2011 Hype Thread
« on: November 17, 2011, 06:37:26 PM »

We're like 5 weeks or so away now, its snuck up fast for me for some reason.  It didn't seem that long ago we just arrived back in Wales but actually it was in like June.

Last year was ruined for me because I got sick a few days before Christmas Eve and then by Christmas Day I couldn't eat or anything so missed out on Christmas dinner, then my mum was forcing medicine down me which was making me sleepy so I missed pretty much all Christmas TV too.  So I don't have anything special lined up or even anything in particular I want except eating a crap load of turkey.

I'm excited as hell to start watching Christmas movies/tv specials too.  I saw the coke advert the other night and then I saw a thread on another forum where it had the old Toys R Us advert, so that and the fact I pretty much missed it last year has got me pumped already.

If I get sick again I'll punch a hole through the universe.

We are doing a Xmas family this year, instead of giving gifts.

What I am buying:

New Nephew
- Should be born in a month. Newborns do not need tangible things like toys and shit. So I want to get him something that lasts. When he is three, I will buy tonnes of toys. I was thinking of getting him a framed John Cena poster. John Cena is made to be liked by kids, and only kids. Guys like CM Punk and Triple H are for adults. So Cena works

Friends:[/b]
- A few friends will get my new calendar
- Gonna buy the mother of the newborn a Xmas ornament concerning her first child

Xmas Family 1
- Our family will be buying for a single mother and two kids. She wants a Xmas Tree, so we will buy them an artificial one. Also, a dvd player, dvds, grocery store gift certificates, and toys

Xmas Family 2
- Our office has a family with seven kids. Condoms would be ideal, but not nice. So just stuff like toys and grocery store gift certificates.

  • This year could potentially be quite good, if things work out for me.. but right now I'm not sure, it's kind of 50/50. I'm in talks with my ex of 2 weeks about getting back together, which would make my Christmas a million times better already seeing as I didn't want to break up in the first place. Gonna take it as it comes though hopefully and not rush fully back into it. Last year we'd broken up too and although I was still seeing her a bit, it wasn't great.. I want a good Christmas with her this year.

Money wise everything is shit, I have hardly any money.. so minimal presents for everyone of boxes of chocolates etc. And I will probably have to spend any money I get for Christmas on food and what not until my next loan comes in, so no presents for me either. On the plus side, if I do work things out with my ex then come January and we get our loans we will be doing Christmas for the both of us then :)

Of course if things go south with my ex then Christmas will just be utter shit, but at least I'll get a break from uni work :)

A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.

Christmas will start bad for me cause I have to travel back up to England which means an 8 hour coach ride. And that will be the day before Christmas Eve probably.

I'm excited because I'll be getting a Tefal Actifry which is a deep fat fryer thing that only uses 3% of the fat it usually takes to cook things like chips. And a slowcooker I think. I'm a nerd so things like that excite me. Plus I think it also excites me because it feels like it's one step closer to moving out of this house into our own place, even though we'll probably still be here next Christmas.

I hope your dad gets mad because your mum didn't give him his blowjob again.

Christmas officially began last Saturday when the Coca-Cola commercial blessed our screens. Apparently the lorry/truck will be in the town where I work tomorrow morning, which would be kind of awesome to see and get my picture taken with, but maybe not quite worth the two-hour round trip.

I'm starting to think about my Christmas shopping but haven't done any serious looking yet. I think it's at least fair to wait until my birthday's out of the way before I get bogged down in all that. (TUESDAY, for those wondering if you've still got time...)

Entertainment-wise, for me the annual highlights of the season are Patrick Stewart's Christmas Carol (followed not too distantly by The Muppet Christmas Carol), The Snowman, and a range of festive songs like Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You. Also this year's Doctor Who special is a take on The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, which should at least be interesting, though I don't remember being blown away by last year's.

The Coca Cola advert was too early for me this year. I saw it Saturday too, and it just didn't feel like Christmas. Usually I look forward to it around the beginning of December, and then BAM, there it is and Christmas is here. This time I was like "what? But it's barely even November..."

Still, I saw it last night too and it felt a little more Christmassy. And I just remembered a night about a month ago I was walking to work and for some reason it felt like Christmas. I can't wait for all the Christmas music.

Christmas will be rather strange for me this year as my Mum has just (this weekend) moved house closer to where I live, which is about 5 hours from where our family home has been since I was 8 or 9 years old. Lots of work needs doing on the new house so it won't feel like home for a while yet but I'm sure it will in good time.

I'm not overly excited about Christmas yet, but I'm sure I will be once my advent calender starts and the countdown begins :yummy:

  • I officially started my Christmas shopping this evening, buying my sister and brother-in-law's present. They have a PlayStation 3 so I was going to buy them Child of Eden, as I've known them to enjoy shoot-em-ups in the past. But then I started thinking, "They have busy lives, they probably don't have time for videogames anymore." So I figured I should browse her Amazon Wishlist for something more sensible, and ended up finding a list of excellently chosen PS3 titles on there. So now they're getting Portal 2 instead. :)

Holidays are so depressing once you're an adult.

That depends on the adult. And obviously what's going on in your life at the time. But the spirit of Christmas is always there no matter your age, if you're willing to embrace it and don't give in to the "it's not cool or mature" cliche that some around you might try and impose. I hate people who think decorations should only go up within twelve days of December 25th, or moan as soon as they hear the first festive song on the radio (unless it's something OTT like the day after Halloween).

Yeah I hope I never get bored of Christmas, and the signs are that I won't.

I've added some stuff to my Amazon basket for people now but it's hard shopping on so tight a budget. You see things that someone would really like but then you look at the price tag and think 'ok I can get them that or save the money to buy myself luxuries like food..'

  • Maybe not for you because I'm the one buying your pasta pots and pepsi every time we go to Tesco.
