Halloween 2011
« on: October 30, 2011, 06:17:36 PM »

Doing anything? Done anything? Had anything done to you?

Halloween's been a complete non-event for me this year. One thing I was looking forward to was seeing the re-release of Ghostbusters on the silver screen, but it's looking likely that I won't even be able to drag anyone along for that. Some people have no sense of prestige for cinematic history.

  • Friday night I dressed up as Green man from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, which is essentially just a green morph suit.. and went out to my local rock club with my girlfriend and some friends. But I had bad indigestion after a few too many drinks and felt like crap so me and my girlfriend came home around 1, then argued until like 3.. made up and then went to sleep. That was pretty much my Halloween night out.

I'm also going to a Halloween house party with some friends tomorrow night, although I really can't be bothered.. I'll probably just wear my Green man outfit again.

A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.

    Mine's been weird.

First, Friday night I was walking home from work and I saw like ten dudes wearing wigs. My first response? "I've obviously missed the memo... when did wigs come back into fashion?" It wasn't until I saw Hulk Hogan walking with Jack Sparrow that I remembered, "Duh. It's Halloween. And were wigs ever in fashion?!?"

So I get home and my roommate's little sister (and ex-roommate) were at a party near my house. Instead of them driving back to their house drunk, they walked to mine and crashed on the couch. They begged me and my roommate to go to their Halloween party the following night (Saturday). We said we'd stop by.

Saturday rolls around and we smoke a little weed and go to this party... I felt weird. I hardly knew anyone there (she goes through friends like a hygienic person would underwear) and was way too high to be bothered with mingling. So me, my roommate, and other friend sat in a living room discussing how long it was polite to stay for before leaving. She notices we're there and her and her boyfriend and the four people I do know migrate to us. She pretty much ditched her whole party to hang with us, which made me feel a little better I suppose.

Drove home and went to bed. Woke up Sunday and my sister was trying to get me to go to another party, but I was just all Hallowed out. Woke up this morning, walked to work and saw a sweet Venom costume and a fat chick dressed as Batman... I'm ready for this holiday to be over.  :-/

More people die from 'legal highs' than Marijuana though. Marijuana has been around for thousands of years, whereas with any kind of loophole-type drug I would be a lot more wary, health-wise. Anyway, besides the point...

I worked yesterday night, so that was my Halloween. I made Illy come and meet me at the building we work at too because I was too scared to walk home on my own on Halloween in this area. There were a few people our age swaggering around in the road wearing Scream masks etc.

Then we watched two of three episodes of a documentary series on the history of Horror in cinema, on BBC4. Early horror, like Dracula and Frankenstein, and the second episode was on Hammer Horror era films, and the next one will be Texas Chainsaw etc.

    That's it. :)

The legal herb stuff is no longer legal in Indiana, Ethan.

The synthetic marijuana (k2 or Spice) that people were smoking led to overdoses and a friend of mine who worked in the Emergency Room at the campus hospital told me we'd be surprised to know how many patients were admitted after smoking too much of that stuff... try as you might, you cannot overdose from marijuana.

And despite what people may claim, there have been no deaths solely contributed to marijuana use. It's a natural herb, man.

Freakin' stinks though. I hate the smell of regular cigarettes but weed's on another level of vomitude.

    It smells like a skunk...

I don't necessarily like the smell or the taste of it, and when I was really young my parents would smoke it and I told them this. They told me if I didn't like it, I could get out of their van and walk. Eh, guess my nostrils adapted pretty quickly after that.

  • I would only ever do it using one of those vapour machines that turns it into steam you can breathe in. Inhaling smoke is bad for you whatever the tobacco is, as far as I know, so it's not worth it. And eating it involves completely different chemical processes in your body that makes it stronger and more dangerous.

Anyway, seems weird going to work tonight and all the stuff that people had up (webs and spiders and pumpkins) has already been removed. I mean I know that makes sense but it was like all that for one day, at least Christmas lasts a month or so if you decorate your house early enough.

Eh, everything's bad for you. It's a matter of moderation, I'd suppose. If you smoked every day, all day long, you're putting yourself at greater risk than someone who inhales smoke once a month, obviously. I still so no way in which marijuana could be considered more dangerous than cigarettes or alcohol, or a lot of prescription drugs that are currently available - but I suppose that's another discussion for another thread at another time.

We've had Christmas stuff up in stores around here since the middle of October.

I f'ing hate Christmas, too, so this makes me angry. (Also something for another thread, eh?)
