I was just out with the dog so he could pee before bed, and the sky is really clear tonight so I was looking up. I wish I could move somewhere really remote so I could see more stars, but tonight one caught my eye that was glowing an orange-red colour, quite bright. Brighter than any stars around it. And kind of glittering and glowing, and seemed somehow more...fixed than the other stars, which I took to mean that it's closer than the others. Anyway, I came inside and searched Twitter for any mentions of impending doom or meteors/comets, and nothing there. So I googled for what is in the sky tonight and found out that it's actually Mars I'm seeing. Which I think is awesome. Also out tonight is Venus and Jupiter - not sure how to find them though, I know roughly where they should be because I looked at a map, but the only planet I recognise is Saturn (and now Mars).
Another bright thing in the sky is a star by Orion's Belt, which I think is Betelgeuse, that's glimmering too. All sparkly and flickering. It's the star that could explode any time between now and a million years from now (I think quite a short time frame in star years) and it will become as prominent a feature of the sky as the sun or moon (but obviously not as big).
