But on a serious note, the jewelry and cupcakes can compliment each other.  Why not offer fresh cupcakes to purchase to consume in the store (and in addition to bring home, like you are doing) and sell some coffee too.

In addition, talk to the people coming into your store.  Ask them what they would like to see.


And then, hire more staff, because you two are afraid to talk to girls.

I suggested tea yesterday jokingly, I think we'd get in trouble because there's a cafe in the place already.  His cupcake idea was doomed really but he thinks he's Alan Sugar all of a sudden and nothing will work unless he came up with it.

Yeah, some malls will not allow you to carry competing items.  The other concern could be the health unit.

But yeah, first figure out who you are selling to and then what they want to buy.

I don't know if this is still something you're interested in pursuing now that you're working at the college (deliberate vagueness there so anyone not keeping up can assume you're teachers or something), but I've just passed a place called Dream Cupcake, or Dream Cupcakes, which proves somebody somewhere is making money this way. I don't know if they're a chain or just one independent outlet, but if you want details on what kind of thing they're doing and the prices they charge I can take a closer look next time I'm in the shopping center.

He probably could just not down town.  There's 3-4 places doing them down there already, plus the farmers market that goes down every Thursday.  If he wants to do it he'd need to find another way some how or do it out of town somewhere.
