WWE To Unify All Titles?
« on: August 31, 2010, 06:27:18 PM »

Quote
F4WOnline.com is reporting that WWE intends to unify all of its titles within the next year. As seen several week's ago, WWE has already unified the Tag Team Titles, and it was announced on Raw last night that there will be a women's title unification bout taking place at the Night of Champions PPV.

WWE's eventual goal is to have one Intercontinental Title and one World Title in the company, with the World Title unification match taking place at next year's WrestleMania.

Please let this be true...

YES

...as long as it means the champions aren't going to change every freaking show, which is probably the next step when it comes to too many title changes.

And doubly YES if it means we may be one step closer to a unified roster...

Hey, I can dream!

  • I would assume that some people will cross over but the shows will basically stay separate. Big names with appear on different shows like Jericho was doing earlier.

This read "We need to build new stars" to me. Soon as they can get a wrestling boon it will revert back. They just don't have the star power to do two belts anymore. Not that I'm complaining, but here come the roster cuts.

  • Unifying the Tag team and Divas belts is obvious as there isn't enough competition in either section at the moment...

They could keep two IC belts in order to have a contender to the main belt... although challengers come through from nowhere anyway so...

Does it also mean only 1 'Money In the Bank' match... or would they have one per brand as they did this year?

I thought the whole idea of two sets of belts was to ensure fans would see a 'Champion' regardless of whether they went to a RAW show or SD show...

It's about f***ing time.  This might actually make WWE interesting again.

I hope this happens, but I'll believe it when I see it. As Kactus said, the women's and tag divisions are so weak that there's little justification in keeping two sets of titles. They don't affect ticket sales, but the prestige of the World and WWE Titles does. If they unify those belts, and continue running concurrent live events, then one crowd's going to be without a champion which does take the shine off the occasion, knowing that you weren't important enough to be given the whole shebang.

  • If they did this then put the brands as one and cut out the mind numbing midcard so we're stuck with Orton's, Edge's, Jericho's etc. then maybe they could at least get one awesome written show out per week.  Or more comedy   :(

In other words, if the WWE and World Heavyweight belts are unified and the roster stays split, if you go to a SmackDown taping and/or SmackDown house show (ESPECIALLY the SmackDown brand house shows) you probably won't see the champion.

Pretty much. What they'd have to start doing, like they used to when running B-shows on the same nights Hogan was wrestling in another town, is putting the IC Title on guys that people care about so that becomes an acceptable main event in its own right, instead of just using it as a prop to get someone over.
