I got a vegetarian cook book this morning, went and bought some ingredients to make a vegetarian mushroom/nut lasagne or whatever. And I got ingredients to make a carrot cake too.
It took a while because I'm new to measurements and stuff so I took my time. I got a fan assisted oven, and the book doesnt give times or anything for that. So I made the carrot cake up, put it in the oven, was supposed to be in there for half hour but within 10 mintues it was burning on top. I turned it down a bit but kept it in there the whole time. Now I've tasted it, the inside is nice and moist and soft and tastes good, but all around the outside of the tin and on top its crusty and burnt in some parts.
The lasagne i thought I'd learn from that, so didn't keep it in as long. I cut into it to test and it seemed done, so dished it up and started eating, and the lasagne sheets weren't done properly, they were way too hard.
So I kinda ruined what coulda been two good things to eat, and its made me look at all the other recipes in the book like "whats the point, I'll only ruin it".
But I guess I'll learn.
