  • Sorry to go off topic here in the FNL thread, but the best thing I watched this week was the season two finale of The Mentalist. For the most part, I'll admit the series is fairly weak. Simon Baker and his charismatic Patrick Jayne character carry the show, because the supporting cast and the majority of weekly plots (which rarely have a satisfying explanation) are nothing to tune in for. But when they dip back into the main story arc involving serial killer Red John, they invariably knock it out of the park and remind me why I became a fan. This return to form was no different.

  • How dare you derail the FNL thread!

I am in the fourth season now... I don't know how I feel about it, but I've only seen two episodes so far.

    I'd do it again!

    Right now!

Actually this has been a pretty nondescript week for TV amongst the shows I watch, so I'll just throw a shout out for Magic Numbers, the "new" light entertainment show on Saturday nights. It's heavily based on Talking Telephone Numbers, which was hosted by Phillip Schofield many moons ago as part of the BBC's National Lottery line-up. This time Stephen Mulhern takes the reigns on ITV1, and it's the best show of its kind in some time. Not amazing, but something I now make a point of watching.

For anyone that cares, I have like six more episodes until I'm all caught up on Friday Night Lights. The second and third seasons were hit and miss, but by that time I was so invested in the characters that I didn't care about a little slip in quality. I've decided to wait a few weeks before finishing it up, because once it's done, I'm going to have nothing to watch!

I just caught a classic re-run of Merry Christmas Mr Bean. It's probably my favorite Mr Bean episode ever, partly due to this scene:

A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.

I don't have HBO. I buy the TrueBlood DVDs but that about all I see from that channel.

Oh, True Blood has been delightfully tasty this season. Way better than last year!
