Joey Mercury rumored to return
« on: February 02, 2010, 02:28:07 PM »

Quote from: PWInsider.com
Former WWE Tag Team Champion Joey Mercury, who has also wrestled under the name Joey Matthews, is set to return to WWE according to several sources.  He is probably best remembered for being part of the MNM team with John Morrison (then Johnny Nitro), managed by Melina.

Mercury, who was released by WWE in March of 2007, worked independents for a time before retiring in 2008, reportedly due to injury issues.  The tentative plan is for Mercury to be part of the Smackdown brand, which puts him on the same show as Morrison.

"Probably best remembered for"? What would the more astute fan remember him for in WWE? He did nothing else while there.

And that's not a bad thing, MNM were a great tag team, even if you took away Melina. I can't see a reformation happening though. Perhaps a feud between Morrison and the embittered, forgotten friend.

Better not climax with a ladder match though.

I read somewhere that he may be brought in as part of Punks society being another wrestler he "saved".

Speaking of Punk, what happened to the guys whose heads he shaved when this gimmick started?  At any rate, Mercury coiming back isn't "big" news to me...

The SES could be a masterstroke by WWE, as a way to bring back guys who've been fired for Wellness violations without worrying about how they'll be perceived. Turning a negative into a positive, and all that...

They didn't have camera-friendly bajungas.

He used to have a move called the Flying Biscuit, so he gets a free pass.

Mercury rules...kind of.  He was great in ROH because he stood out more with everyone being all flippy and him actually trying tell a story, but in WWE he won't get past midcard if he even gets that far.

I'm indifferent about this. At the time, when they let him go, I was all angry and calling for a war, but as time went on and Morrison was able to shine a lot brighter without him, I just stopped missing him. I don't want to see any sort of reunion angle, because that'd be a step back for Morrison, but if they can find something for Mercury to do that doesn't involve his old partner, I suppose I'm all for it.
