TNA Against All Odds 2010
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:43:52 PM »

Against All Odds: Sunday On PPV

TNA World Heavyweight Title:
AJ Styles (w/ Ric Flair) vs Samoa Joe
(Special referee: Eric Bischoff)

Team 3D vs The Nasty Boys

8 Card Stud Tournament:
The Pope vs Desmond Wolfe
Hernandez vs Matt Morgan
Kurt Angle vs Mr Anderson
Mick Foley vs Abyss
Plus semifinals and finals (brackets)

The winner of the tournament shoots to the top of the new rankings system in TNA and earns a title shot at Lockdown.

Sounds like a pretty good show to me. Looking at those brackets, what are your ideal semifinal and final tournament matches?

I'm surprised there's not a Knockouts match on the card.  That's rather disappointing.

As for the brackets, I'm thinking Mr. Anderson will advance over Angle.  Since Hogan really put over Mr. Anderson as a credible title contender, I would think that push would continue and he'd go over on Angle who has already been the champion.

Morgan and Hernandez is really tough.  Both are big guys and Hogan seems to like big guys, so I can see this going either way.  A real slobberknocker of a match is what I'm seeing.  If I had to pick, I'll go with Hernandez since he's the more physically impressive of the two.

The Pope and Desmond Wolfe is another tough one.  Desmond beat Samoa Joe and Pope beat AJ Styles and Orlando Jordan for his revenge.  If I remember correctly, Hogan's not too high on Desmond but I haven't heard his opinion on The Pope.  The Pope has a much flashier entrance and Desmond's just kinda there.  Both are impressive in the ring but I think The Pope will take this.

I expect Abyss to go over Foley if they go the no-shennanigans route.  I don't see what's gained by a Foley win.

So I'm predicting Hernandez/Pope and Anderson/Abyss for the semifinals.  With Hernandez/Pope, I would normally pick Hernandez but the fact that he's already half of the tag team champs makes me hesitant.  I don't know TNA's stance on people holding multiple titles like they do in the WWE.  I'm actually leaning towards The Pope on this one and the storyline of "building momentum" could be used.

Anderson/Abyss, I'll go with Anderson just to continue that push and it would set-up the final to be a heel vs. face match.

For the finals, Anderson/Pope and this one is tough.  I'm expecting AJ to retain his title against Joe; so, since Styles is a heel, I'll go with The Pope to take it all.  I could also see Anderson winning but Pope would probably be better from a storyline perspective.  Pope and Styles/Flair can build up the intensity till the next PPV.

Damn, I nearly had it totally right for the brackets.  I just guessed the wrong big man between Morgan and Hernandez.  Oh well.

Just read the results from the show, it sounds pretty solid, although that Nasty Boys/3D match doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun. I think the tournament was rather predictable, especially with Hogan going on record about how he feels about Pope, but either way, it sounds like another good effort from TNA, which has done a great job with their PPVs in the past few months.

I think ODB was on a couple weeks ago in a tag match with Traci Brooks.  I think the opponents were Sarita and Taylor Wilde.

Not a standout show but not bad either. Ken Anderson continued to impress me with damn near everything he did, and the finish to Morgan/Hernandez has interesting implications. The final told a good story too.

I wasn't a fan of the Foley/Abyss match though, partly because they still didn't use the barbed wire bat after practically guaranteeing it. Not that I'm obsessed with barbed wire bats, but they built anticipation for something and then didn't deliver.

Which is also how they made me feel about the World Title match, accidentally, because every segment that pushed the hatred between Flair and Bischoff down our throats, the more I was convinced they were in cahoots. Of course, if I'd been right, I'd have complained about how predictable it was, but it still would have been more interesting than the finish they went with.

Thought what I saw of the PPV was great, enjoyed all the matches. Tournament matches were all good and I liked the stories they told, Pope's matches were particularly good so glad he went on to win it. Wolfe/Angle was good too. And I liked Abyss/Foley, and idea that Foley was basically trying to get Abyss to hurt him. Dudleyz/Nasty Boyz was what I expected - kinda annoying to see Jimmy Hart just cause its another of hogan's friends, and not huge fan anyway, but meh. Missed the main event so will prolly read the results or something, and also missed last tournament match. Something went wrong with the 'recording'. Anyway, what I saw up to was another good show from TNA.

I thought it was kind of crappy really outside of The Pope.  I marked for Jimmy Hart and hoping we get the megaphone on impact.  I think Foley is done.  He looks really bad in the ring now, he needs to stay in a non wrestling role.  He's moving around like a cripple and with how limited he seems to be now he has to double on his punches which look like shit, they don't even connect.

Those mentions of Jimmy Hart remind me, I liked the finish to 3D/Nasties but it annoyed me that Taz and Tenay completely failed to put over the way it happened. Yes, Jimmy Hart returned and interfered - but how? By throwing in a motorcycle helmet to be used to break up a pin, which is exactly how they won the WWF Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania VII. Granted, I don't expect the announcers to mention the specifics, but the wrestlers/bookers had clearly made the effort to recreate a moment and it was completely no-sold on commentary.
