Death In The Family
« on: March 12, 2010, 08:18:23 PM »

Two years ago, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and she was given about a year to live. She has fought it and is doing pretty well all things considered.

My Dad was diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks before Thanksgiving. It started out as lung cancer but had spread to his bones, liver and brain. He went through 3 weeks of radiation treatment and then 3 rounds of chemo. He went from walking with a cane, to using a walker to having to use a wheelchair. Finally, the chemo and cancer took such a toll on him, he had to go to the hospital. There, he had an infection in his blood and urinary tract. He became completely bedridden. He stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks. Toward the end of that stay, he just asked for us to take him home. The doctors told us that there was nothing more they could do for him and so we took him home. He lay in a bed at home for another week. Then, on March 9, at 1 am, he died in his sleep. It was my sisters birthday. He was 76 yrs old. I miss you Dad and I love you.

I'm sorry to hear that. I really do not have the words that would be able to really say or do anything. I hope that a sense of peace comes over your family.

My dad is battling cancer as we speak. What makes matters worse is the fact that he's finishing up the last 23 days of his prison sentence for a DUI. He's been sick since January of 2009 and was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer and given a 60% chance of recovery. The numbers are good, but he has not received proper medical care while behind bars, so hopefully when he comes home he can get the treatment he needs and it isn't too late. Sorry to hear about your loss, Purps.

Sorry to hear of that, Purps. I hope the family's coping as well as can be expected, though it will obviously be very hard for a very long time.

I'm sorry about the loss of your father, Purps.  If it helps, I believe he's in a better place now -- free of the pain.

Gopher, I'm sorry for what your family is going through.

"Picture a weasel -- and most of us can do that, for we have met that little demon of destruction, that small atom of insensate courage, that symbol of slaughter, sleeplessness, and tireless, incredible activity -- picture that scrap of demoniac fury, multiply that mite some fifty times, and you have the likeness of a Wolverine."
