Does it irritate you when match rules are swept under the rug or quietly altered, just because it's convenient for the spot they want to book?
Take the Royal Rumble a few days ago. MVP was jumped on his way to the ring by The Miz, and limped backstage without officially entering the match. Later on, MVP stormed back out for revenge, with the announcers reminding us that "he was never eliminated," and then a point is made of them both going over the top rope.
In one of the very first Rumbles that I watched, the announcers stated that each new participant must enter the ring before the next buzzer sounds, otherwise he's missed his chance. This makes complete sense, because if you didn't have a time limit to enter the ring, then you could draw #3 and then sit in the back all night, and then run out at the end and pick up the scraps. Why should you risk elimination if you can take as long as you want to join the match? And if everyone used the same strategy, the crowd would be staring at an empty ring indefinitely! If the Royal Rumble was a real contest, then the only way it could work at all would be to have that rule giving each participant a limited window of opportunity to enter the match.
Now I've got that out of my system, another obvious one comes to mind. A few months ago, someone was feuding with Randy Orton. I think it was John Cena (safe bet). Ted DiBiase ran out and climbed on the apron, daring Cena to hit him, but Cena hesitated as the announcers claimed he'd be disqualified if he laid a hand on DiBiase. WHAT? Since when? What rule book were they reading that week? It was a stupid, intelligence-insulting decision to rewrite the established rules of a WWE match, just for the sake of a finish that could have easily been adjusted to maintain basic continuity.
Any more? Over to you.
