Details here:

Original producers and some of the cast are onboard with Fox.

I've never seen Torchwood, only the occasional Doctor Who, but the description of it as a "more straight-faced" spinoff is appealing to me. I wonder though how the US version will affect continuity across what I'm going to call the "Whoniverse," which seems to be in a confusing enough state already.

Facepalm moment when this article pointed out to me that "Torchwood" is an anagram of "Doctor Who." Can't believe I didn't know that.

Ignore

Didn't they learn thier lessons with

The Office
Life On Mars
Men Behaving Badly
Ballykissangel
Cracker
Dad's Army
Fawlty Towers
The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
The IT Crowd
Coupling
Porridge
Red Dwarf
Footballers' Wives
Scrapheap Challenge
Upstairs, Downstairs
The Vicar of Dibley
Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Steptoe and Son

about the only one which was successful was the US remake of Man About The House (remade as three's company)

Plus the entire reason for torchwood was to protect British interests (Queen Victoria set up torchwood after meeting the doctor and a werewolf!)

Wasn't the US version of The Office successful? British opinion seems divided over which is better.

And wasn't Coupling just a "British version" of Friends? Or did bounce back across the Atlantic in a "Street Fighter The Movie: The Game" sort of way?
