Smackdown July 3rd, 2009
« on: July 03, 2009, 01:28:34 PM »

Sorry I have been on vacation and haven't gotten around to anything for a while, so like timbo I will just write up my own preview

CM Punk was able to retain his title through some questionable actions in the world heavy weight championship match against the enigmatic, charismatic, risk taking, drug addict, enigma jeff hardy. How will he react to this this Friday.

Edge and chris Jericho were able to talk their way into the tag team championship match and won the titles, so how will these two massive egos ever coexist?

Kane also made his shocking return at the bash costing the great kahli his match against dolph ziggler.  I am sure the smackdown locker room is on notice, because kane has to win sometime right?!?!?

Michelle mcCool has also slept her way to becoming the first diva to win both womens titles in the wwe. Could melina be the next to attain the honor or will their be a new challenger?

Find out this week on Friday Night Smackdown!!!!!!

Another dumb Diva/Wrestler couple = fail.

Punk was gold again and is doing his best stuff since being in WWE character wise.  Rey/Kane should have been better, their past matches were.  Both Morrison and Teddy need to be fired for that stuff backstage.

The show was plodding in places this week, with matches that served no immediate purpose for the audience. Finlay vs Ortiz, for example. Kane vs Rey, for another. Furthering the Khali/Kane feud doesn't count as a purpose for any audience in my book. And the Michael Jackson stuff was indeed embarrassing.

But there was some good stuff. Once again, Punk was great, though it's disappointing how the announcers had to play dumb towards Hardy's actions at the end of the match. Dolph Ziggler busted out a move I'd never seen before, in that inverted powerslam. And on the international version, From The Vault showed the match that featured this classic shot.

I'm praying for the day that R-Truth presents a live mic to a ringside fan and they don't say what he's expecting them to say... :sly:

And god damn Cryme Tyme.  They have to be the most annoying people on the roster at the moment.  I want to like them but then they start talking AND ARGH SHUT THE FUCK UP.

This show was bad. Here are the good parts:

1. Opening segment with CM Punk. Punk leaning towards the heel side is getting better every week.

2. Chris Jericho and Edge. Their promos and matches are money.

The Bad...everything else. Cryme Tyme segments are terrible. Dolph Ziggler getting this huge push I don't understand. He beat R-Truth who is 10 times more over than Ziggler. Morrison is good, but that segment with Teddy was terrible.

Overall, there are only about 4 guys that make me want to see Smackdown right now.  And, it's still better than Raw.

I can see Dolph ending up like Kennedy.  He has the charisma, seems to be a bumping machine, and has quite a cool finisher, but being paired with Maria will mean lame segments backstage with her and maybe even a face turn.  They've already changed his music to something worse than it was.  I had such high hopes for Dolph.  :(

I can't get into Dolph's character at all. He's pretty stupid. I don't understand the appeal.

I notice they're completely glossing over Punk's actions following his loss to Morrison last week, acknowledging the result but not what happened afterwards. I questioned his unjustifiable assault at the time, but at least hoped it would factor into the story as a pivotal plot point. It hasn't. They just blew a hole in his gradual, morally ambiguous heel turn for no reason.
