Michael Jackson Tribute Song
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:16:23 AM »

[yt=425,350]qNJ8cJ8ALes[/yt]

This song is called "Better on the Other Side" by Game ft. Chris Brown

Warning of sorts: This song is a rap song, and I know that some of you don't care for the genre.

I don't mind rap but I think this song's pretty half-assed. Granted it was produced in just a day or two, but was that necessary? You'd think a tribute would be the best they could make it, not just something thrown together to get it out the door while the mourners are still spending. And I find it strange that someone recently in the press for beating up his girlfriend would be included in a project like this.

idk why it's not working....

Because you pasted the whole URL when you only need the ID. (Guide)

Because he is still an entertainer and at the end of the day he still has one of the best voices out there.  And just because he has some bad press and possible legal trouble, doesn't mean that he needs to/should stop doing his job, his job being singing and making music.

But that's beside the point.  The reason why this song sounds so half-assed is because it's just a leak, the official single won't come out for probably another week or so.  And it just so happens that this song was leaked before it could be mastered.

Calling what Chris Brown, or what most of those guys do, music is a bit of a stretch.

I don't begrudge him the right to earn a living, but if this is a tribute single then it's not about money, it's about respect. How respectful is it to put someone recently guilty of domestic violence in a tribute performance to Michael Jackson, whose own psychological issues may have been partly attributed to the brutal treatment he received from his father?

 :shake: No, Fan, it's not a stretch, everybody has their opinions on music, but it's all music regardless.  It's not easy to make music at all, regardless of the genre.

Quote from: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/music
an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.
I'm pretty sure that, according to the technical definition of the word "music" what 'Chris Brown, or what most of those guys do,' is considered music, and some people enjoy it.

Heady - As hypocritical as it may sound, just because you do something, doesn't mean that you can't respect somebody who possibly has psycological issues due to the same thing that you are convicted of.  Just because Chris may or may not have abused Rihianna doesn't mean that he can't pay respects to the late Michael Jackson in form of a song.

It's really not the point whether he respects Jackson. It's the decision of The Game (or whoever put the project together) to include him that I question. I wouldn't invite Gary Glitter to record a tribute single to Madeleine McCann, because it's just inappropriate no matter what. In Brown's case there's a little unfortunate timing involved, because I wouldn't see it in the same light if it happened a few years from now, but with the felony still fresh in the public mind I find it an odd choice to make.

Regardless of personal feelings, this song is for remembering the life and times of Michael Jackson, not debating whether or not one of the artists should be able to make a tribute song to him or not.
