Favourite Toys / Game Gadgets
« on: June 15, 2009, 06:48:55 AM »

I bought my bro a 50 pounds batman outfit for a fancy dress birthday party, cause he out of a job at the moment, and the idea was - well, it was worth the money cause its an awesome batman outfit, when would that not be needed. But turns out, now I think about it, it was 50 pounds and there's a good chance I won't wear it again. I wanted to get Captain America anyway. So we're gunna take it back, and they giving us 50 pounds store credit to spend. We bought it in a toy store, it aint huge but it aint real small so got quite a lot of games and it aint all little kids stuff. What you think I should buy? Any suggestions of stuff that could be used again? Like I wanna get something that won't be used once and then thrown away, which kinda rules out a lot of board games cause when you've played them once, unless you play it with different people, it's pretty much the same experience over and over. Right now the winner is a mini pool table (which is only like 5-10 pounds) and a Nerf gun that shoots those foam bullets. For obvious reasons.

Also, what are your favourite games. Not video games, actual board games or toys. And what were your favourite toys as a kid.

The great thing about the age we live in, is that adults can still buy toys and call them "collectables." WWE, superhero, Star Wars, whatever your fancy, you need make no excuses for buying action figures these days. Not that I personally would, because dolls are for babies, but I hope you take my point.

My favorite games now are Jenga, Monopoly (depends who I'm playing with), and since installing it on PWH, I've grown quite fond of chess for the first time in my life.

My sister always likes to get people playing those team games that require making an idiot out of yourself, by some combination of charades, putty moulding, the yes-no game, etc. Cranium is a prime example. They can be fun but through repetition, I have come to loathe these games.

As a kid my favorite toys were, progessively, action figures for He-Man, Ghostbusters, Transformers, Turtles, and wrestling. I was also caught up in the Monster in my Pocket craze, collecting loads of those and having the game that involved knocking down your opponent's monsters with a little cannon. That was great until it came down to the monsters with a wide vertical base, or those positioned in certain, almost unassailable spots atop the castle.

SAME.  DO YOU WANT TO COME AROUND MY HOUSE AND PLAY SOME TIME?

That shit was way more fun than video games.

I hate monopoly and board games like that mostly because my family sucks and argues about every turn so each game would last like 3 - 4 hours.

Super soakers ftw.

I played Monopoly a lot when I was in hospital, but it takes forever. We'd have to like "save" games and just remember how much we had and where everything was. Its a pain in the ass.

I think I had a Monster In Your Pocket thing (not pokemon) - like a hand-me-down from my bro. Was it like an egg thing that opened up?

THAT REMINDS ME! THOSE WEIRD ALIEN THINGS IN EGGS! The adverts lied, they said if you put two together, they had a baby. I aint ever get no alien babies.  :(

I used to really like board games when I was younger, like Jenga, Boggle, that game where you pass a bomb around. And then I went through a phase where I really wanted to play those crazy board games where you gotta do actions and mime and draw and stuff. Now, I wouldn't mind playing a board game with a bunch of people, but I'm not stupid enough to think I have enough friends to make it worth spending my money on any board games.

At a guess, the monster thing Hazzy was talking about.. could it have been Mighty Max? There were plenty of different versions.

A good listener tries to understand what the other person is saying. In the end he may disagree sharply, but because he disagrees, he wants to know exactly what it is he is disagreeing with.

I had a couple of those, that snake one and a spider one. Well designed and everything, just not a great deal of fun to play with as I recall. They were the boys' version of Polly Pocket, which might be where the confusion came from.
