I saw this on Tuesday.. Transformers 2 - 8/10

It's definitely going to be a big film when it's released, on name alone.. but it does itself justice. It builds on the first instalment, adding lots more action and a hell of a lot of robot fighting.. which is exactly what the first one could have done with more of. The introduction of a few "new to the movies" Transformers were very welcomed and added a lot more width to the character base. Instead of just good vs evil as per the first movie.

All in all, this film has wholeheartedly been endorsed by myself. Go and watch it when it's released.

I hope I can agree with you when I finally see it, Jackal. Seeing as how Transformers was something I really hated, I'm not really looking too forward to this sequel. I've been checking out all the trailers, clips, pics, etc that get released on the web, a lot of it is cringe-worthy, but I will go in with an open mind and try to have fun.

Heady, I think you can really tell that Bale is a method actor. He's wandering aimlessly into the bounds of type-cast as most of his characters are uncomfortable bad asses (Batman, American Psycho, Terminator, Machinist, etc.). When you divide the movie, and separate the god-awful writing from the acting, in my opinion, Christian does a phenomenal job of taking that horrid writing and actually making a worthwhile performance out of it.

Year One (2009) will certainly leave you talking about disasters of biblical proportions, and the best example of such a catastrophe is the movie itself. Year One takes so many drastic downhill falls that I was consistently surprised at how far it was able to drop (which was really the only consistent thing about it). Apparently, good humor wasn’t unearthed until sometime after year two. The only thing that kept me watching was my unwillingness to waste more money on this film than the producers already had. 1/10

Sex Trip - Typical teenage tit flick.  Funny, but not much substance.

Pelham 123 - Good movie, but not go out and buy the DVD good.  The directing got rather annoying during some parts.  Reminded me a lot of Collateral.

Step Brothers: was not excited for this one, because I am a little sick of the typical Ferrell stuff, but this was definitely hilarious.  Would recommend this one

Tom, Dick, and Harry old school movie from 1941 starring Ginger Roberts and Burgess Merideth.  To understand a movie from 1941, you have to think like 1941.  I tried, and there were still odd parts.  Enjoyable, but I would not necessarily recommend it.

The Great Escape: Clint Eastwood is a badass.  WATCH IT

The Incredible Hulk: This had a shit load of good reviews, but to be honest, it did not really impress me.

Hancock: I actually found this enjoyable considering the fact that it got mild reviews

I liked that Incredible Hulk a lot.  But then I also liked the Fantastic Four movies.  Oh well.  :(

El Bola

I expected that I might not like it too much because the kind of film it is.  It's the kind my teacher would make us do in Film Studies and plus it's foreign.  I've grown in my tastes so that doesn't bother me too much anymore but I've had to watch tons of foreign films because of my exam so I'm quite sick of them.  Anyway, this ended up being pretty good and got me emotionally invested.  The scene where the kid gets the shit kicked out of him actually made me mad at his dad.  The friendship and the other family was done well as well.

The Da Vinci Code

I thought it was what I expected.  I didn't really find it all that interesting so enjoyed the build up to the end more than the end which I didn't really care about at all.  Tom Hanks is the man so it was enjoyable enough.

Angels & Demons

I thought this was much better because I actually cared about what was going on.  Plus it had some cool effects with explosions and fire and shit.

Inkheart

the story is very complicated, and to be honest i still dont get the movie until now, i dont get if Brendan Fraser has the ability to make everything he read turns real or is it just the book that is all magic, but i like the graphics and acting is not that bad, so ill give it a 3/10

I also recently watched Angels and Demons, and it was decent enough. It was watchable at least, didn't get bored. But the book is so much better. The film is "based on" the book, so don't go in expecting a full remake or whatever. Characters are missing, plot points are missing, hell in a lot of places any kind of character motivation is missing. Movie or book, motivation is what drives a story forwards, what drives characters. Seemed to me like in this film stuff was just laid out and we were expected to accept everything that was happening.

The book goes into detail and explains stuff like the symbols, the history of the Illuminati, the church, struggles for power within the church, character histories - that makes it sound boring and drawn out, but its not. It all adds to the whole narrative and interests you even more. This film was like someone telling you the plot of the book a few months after reading it. Like "uhh, this symbologist guy is taken to Rome because this ancient group has shown up and they have this kinda bomb thing, meanwhile a new pope is getting elected..."

If anyone reading this hasn't read the book yet, whether you seen the film or not, I recommend you read the book. You should really read the book. It's awesome.

It's really not complicated at all.. and it was quite obvious from the film that it was Brendan Fraser that had the ability to bring what he reads to life, hence why Capricorn kidnapped him and wanted him to read from different books for his own personal gain.. if it was the book that was special then Brendan Fraser would have been of no importance whatsoever.

Anyway, the last film I watched was... Dirty Dancing - 7/10.

For what it was, it wasn't bad.. you can tell why when it came out it was such a big hit.. but it wouldn't stand up in today's movie market, it only really has nostalgia going for it now. But I enjoyed it none the less.. what I watched of it anyway. My girlfriend made me watch it, and we got a little distratced occasionally. But all in all.. it was a decent movie. Also, Swayze is the man.

Once Upon a Time In the West

I thought it was pretty good but then after a while I got bored of it and just wanted it to end.  Definitely prefer The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.  There was some interesting characters but after a while I just stopped caring.  I think it was too long.

Story of Anvil

I was bored and my dad bought it and told me to watch it.  I didn't expect to like it but it was actually quite good.  Shows what happens if you don't have the brains / management behind your talent.

Hellraiser

Was pretty dumb and cheesy but that's why I found it entertaining.  The shots of skin being stretched and ripped apart was gross.

X-Men Origins:  Wolverine

It was ok.  It was more special effects and action than explanation.  If you're going to go into a characters past you'd expect a shit ton more explanation and background than what was in the X-Men movies and there wasn't much at all.  It was all rushed to get a bunch of different characters in.  Meh, Deadpool/Agent X/whatever that clone was was kind of cool.

I thought X-Men was okay, kept me entertained. I got kinda confused about the characters cause I dont know much about comics, but even what I do know it didn't really go along with. But it wasn't a bad way to spend like, 2 hours or whatever it was.

Australia (2008) is a massive picture in range, reach, appearance, sense, and, of course, budget. It is also, sadly, an enormous disappointment. Australia is a heroic romance narrative, and a rather unusual piece of brashness. Everything about the film is outrageously over the top (and not necessarily in a good way). The film tries way too hard to grab an Oscar and be deemed a classic, when it is ultimately forgettable. I give the movie an average score because the camera work and cinematography is rather visually stunning. 5/10

Dr. Strangelove: OR How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) is a magnum opus of spoof paranoia and dark humor. Peter Sellers in his greatest form along with a phenomenal cast and many unforgettable moments. It's as astonishing and terrifying nowadays as I can only assume it was when it first came to cinemas. I strongly recommend that every single person on this planet see this movie before it becomes too real to be amusing any longer. One of the greatest films ever made.  10/10

Fargo (1996) merges the pure powers of parody, wit, and mystery, that seems at first thought to be an impractical film to create. The Coen Brother’s have many ups and downs in their film making career, so much so that it’s a theatrical roller coaster just thinking about them, but Fargo is definitely one of their highest points. A great cast coupled with phenomenal direction and story. 9/10

Miller's Crossing (1990) is definitely not as ornately evocative as The Godfather, nor is it as muddled or enthused as Scorsese's Goodfellas, but it undoubtedly achieves precisely what it attempts to. There's an abundance of fascinating plotting and double-crossing about it, with pungent twists and well-delivered, magnificently cultured dialogue. Miller’s Crossing didn’t win any awards, and it didn’t necessarily deserve to, but it is more than enough to keep you or anyone else thoroughly entertained. 9/10

Mystic River (2003) is Clint Eastwood’s best work behind the camera since Unforgiven and has become a pretty big piece of his motion picture portfolio. However, while the film may for a short while try to convince you otherwise, Mystic River is basically an extra-long episode of Law & Order with a fantastic ensemble cast. That last statement may sound all negative, but in actuality it’s not. The story is intriguing, engulfing, and ultimately shocking, but I can’t shake the feeling that I’ve seen it all before. 7/10

Transformers (2007) is a film best mimicked by dropping a pound of nuts and bolts on your kitchen floor and sucking them up with your vacuum cleaner. The story and plot are unforgivable and the lack of depth is sickening. I’ve come to expect very little from Michael Bay and this film does nothing but reassure my previous conclusions about him. While Bay may be able to masterfully produce visually pleasing effects, his direction ultimately cancels out all the positives. The humor is irritatingly unfunny and its only saving grace are the effects that seem nearly flawless despite the fact that the actual Transformers hardly resemble the ones from the original cartoon seriesl. 3/10

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) is about ten minutes of story gratuitously, arrogantly, and carelessly splurged amongst two and a half unrelenting hours. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is pretty much what I’ve grown to expect from summer blockbusters directed by people like Michael Bay: loud, obnoxious action scenes, little-to-no plot, absolutely no character development, and one hot chick. This is quite possibly the worst film of the summer, if not the year, but will people still go and see it? If the opening weekend numbers are any indication, heck yes! What Michael Bay is pioneering, and what he is most praised for, his special effects, are quite possibly the most lackluster aspects of the entire film, as without good choreographing any special effect is virtually worthless. If it weren't for John Turturro (when was the last time he was in a good movie?) and Rainn Wilson, I would have deemed this unwatchable. 2/10

Sunset Blvd.
I totally had an idea similar to this, they're always stealing my ideas.  Anyway, great film.  House was creepy as hell and I felt sorry for Norma even though she's a crazy bitch.  I read that the actress was an actual silent movie star and I know a lot of silent movie stars disappeared once sound came along.

Monday 30th June - Ice Age 3
A good sequel to the two films already in existance, it was funny.. yet not too stupid. Clever, but not too smart.. and well that's about it, if you're looking for a family film filled with laughs, then go and see it. Unofrtunately, I saw the 2d version, as we hadn't had the 3d one delivered.. however, I can only imagine the 3d adds to the film.. so it still gets plus marks.

Tuesday 31st June - My Sister's Keeper
Such a sad film.. I wasn't expecting much 'story-wise' going into this one.. in fact I only watched it because my friend wanted to and she couldn't afford to do much else.. I was pleasantly surprised. Filled with many heart warming moments, and many from the opposite end of the spectrum too. The film really showed the whole situation from a different light than I had expected.. though the twist was easily predicted from the start. It didn't take away from the overall film.

Year One
I've not heard much but bad things about this one and I really do not see why. It does what it says on the tin basically.. it's a fun, parody of religion.. and anyone expecting anymore than that is just an idiot. It's Jack Black and Michael Cera doing what they do best.. playing the exact kind of characters you would expect. Filled with plenty of Ramis' humour... you couldn't ask for much more from this kind of film. By no means is it an amazing film.. but you won't be let down.

Public Enemies
I was expecting a lot more from this film in all honesty.. with Johnny Depp leading and Christian Bale too. I felt that it dragged on somewhat, and could've been made shorter. I was personally expecting a lore more action than what I was offered.. but in all fairness, it did a very good job of telling the Dillinger story. I really enjoyed the film.. but I can't help but feel that many people will be just willing the end along once it nears it's finale. Though I would definitely watch it again.
