At Nintendo's E3 conference this week, two new games in the Mario franchise were unveiled for the Wii:

Super Mario Galaxy 2
If you've played the original, this video will look VERY familiar. But, as you've played the original, you should have no beef with that at all. More of a good thing is always welcome.

New Super Mario Bros
Not a port of the DS game, despite having the same title. It's a new 2D platformer, with a multiplayer slant that allows for cooperative or competitive play for up to four.

I'll be getting me some Galaxy 2 right away, but will probably wait for a bargain on New SMB.

Meh. I was hoping for more. Though the metriod game they announced looked interesting too.

GameCentral's review for Super Mario Galaxy 2 has made my day. I've never known them to be so gushing about any game, ever.

The initial buzz on this game couldn't have been less encouraging. [...] of greatest concern was that this game was initially envisioned as a sort of remix of the first title, reusing the existing levels and graphics and churning out a new game in little more than a year.

Despite all their attempts to create a cynical cash-in, though, Nintendo have failed utterly.

While I'd have been happy enough with more of the same, it's a huge relief to hear that it's not. Can't wait to get my hands on this now - I've just placed my order for £32 on Amazon.
