Meh, depends on the context. If someone actually started ranting at someone saying they're "probably a faggot" or something, and not just calling them a "damn faggot" as a general insult, then the line should probably be drawn. But I think faggot is used the same way "gay" is now. People say like "ugh this is gay" or "i gotta do this gay essay", its just become a word for something negative, not related to man on man action. And I use faggot the same way.

I'm about as un-homophobic as you can be without having a dick up my ass, and I don't find someone calling me a faggot offensive, and I call other people faggots.

Yeah, and we're all adults.  I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than just a little word to start offending people, especially when it's not even directed at them.

If there were actual complaints about it I'd understand, but just seems like your censoring it just because you think you're supposed to.  We all know each other enough to know none of us are like that.

And it's not like it's the only way we have fun here.  That's not the problem.  Problem is you're suddenly messing with our posts without warning about it.  If it was becoming an issue like you say it is then you could have made a post about it and people would have listened.  Instead Gopher chose to edit something that couldn't be made offensive even if I tried out of my post out of nowhere.

Jet Black, the lady doth protest too much.

Yeah, and we're all adults.  I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than just a little word to start offending people, especially when it's not even directed at them.

There's a subtle difference between that, and wanting to uphold a few minimum standards on the site. Bear in mind that I am talking about the more extreme language.

I'm inclined to give you that. As I said earlier though, I believe it was a matter of boiling point being reached, an accumulative effect of us both turning a reluctant blind eye for months. I agree that raising the issue before now may have achieved more than a surprise edit, since it's generally uncharacteristic of any staff member including TheGopher. But I'm glad the issue has been raised one way or another, and I'm especially glad that I didn't have to be the bad cop. ;)

There are two moderators on this forum that are active, one being me and the other is Heady, and he's the administrator. Every edit I have ever made to a post (on the rare occasion I've edited an active member's post) has been justified based on the rules of posting that is clearly made available to members. I took this position knowing that I wouldn't always be favorable, but at the same time have never once tried to make it seem that I view this as serious business, because I could care less.

Now, unless I am told to stop enforcing the rules, I will continue to do so. But if I am told to stop, I believe the rules need to be reevaluated so that a moderator (or in my case, the only moderator) can known when it is and isn't acceptable to do his duties.

We're such unique and self-aware creatures, yet we can't be the paradigm or standard that goes above simply being an animal,we find ways to be worse than them.

Funny how when it's the poor that steal,it's theivery, but when it's the rich that commit the same atrocity on a much more massive level,it's business as usual.

Money makes the world go around...until it spins straight off of its own axis.

To theists, God is the clutch that sets everything into gear. To atheists, God is the imaginary crutch that sets everything into fear.

We're both devils. Wanna know which one you are?

Matter comes and writes the play, for it's a messed up ID. Forget the keys in your hand that lock up liberty for the benefit of divinity, for if not,you are not self, without anew to be.

Evangelicals and dominionists are somewhere in between nuts and asshole. They're perineum cancers. They're twernt tumors. Because if they twernt there, they wouldn't be a pain in America's ass. And they wish to wipe their excrement with the Constitution.

Civility and common sense are the first causalities to make room for large egos and larger wallets.
