I got half way through and realised I would much rather be listening to the original version. I heard a good cover on the radio the other day though by a band...I forget who.

I've been trying to find a good cover of Ray Lamontagne's "New York City's Killing Me" after hearing Axle Whitehead, a Home and Away actor with a music career off screen, performing it on a behind-the-scenes show last week (12:45 into this video). Here's the original:



I really like the song but prefer the actor's cut back version. Ray's efforts seem a little over complicated and even self indulgent.

So far the closest match I've found is this one. If I could take this guy's voice and put it over Axle's arrangement, I'd have what I'm looking for:
