At work we use a postal address database which another company sells or licenses out to various industries. It contains every address in the UK (at the time of compilation), so if you know part of the address like the street name or postcode, you can search for the whole thing including house number or business name. Very useful when you need to mail something out and you've only been given partial information about where the intended recipient lives or works.
Well recently I had to look up a company called Anthony Stiff Associates. A mildly amusing name in its own right, though their website suggests a rather serious firm, in the business of landscape architecture and environmental consulting. I'm not sure what they'd think, then, if they knew that this postal address database has abbreviated their name to A Stiff Ass - which is how any mail sent out using this system will be addressed...
