  • Help me decide what to play next:

    Assassin's Creed (Xbox 360)
    Bioshock (Xbox 360)
Def Jam: Fight For NY (GameCube)
    Dewy's Adventure (Wii)
    Fahrenheit [a/k/a Indigo Prophecy] (PS2)
    Ico (PS2)
    MadWorld (Wii)
    Mass Effect (Xbox 360)
    Persona 4 (PS2)
    Second Sight (Xbox)
    Shadow of Memories (PS2)
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Xbox)
    The Italian Job (PS1)
    Thief: Deadly Shadows (Xbox)
True Crime: New York City (PS2)

Ico and Fahrenheit I've played a little of, but would need to restart to get back into them.

If you want something short, then play Bio Shock.

  • You're suggesting I buy Rumble Roses and make use of its "Hands Free" mode?

And now I've just finished Yakuza 2.

    Wow.

Slightly ashamed I had to resort to gunpower in the final battle, but one more strike would have killed me, and the last opportunity to save was just toooooo long ago to even contemplate dying now.

Good job I don't have a PS3 to play it on yet, or I'd be jumping straight into Yakuza 3 already.

how did u finish the last fight, luck?

and ive played true crime NY, it was alright, if ur a fan of open world, but the game has a lot of glitches, but it was alright

  • I've been playing Pokemon Fire Red using an Emulator on my PC for the past couple of days, I really get into these Pokemon games.

Yeah it was luck gungrave. I had literally a slither of health left, and I managed to get the other side of a pillar whch gave me just enough time to fire the modified gun that I'd earned in a side quest. I think he was sprinting around the pillar for what would have been his final hit when my bullet dropped him. I'm such a wimp.

  • ok i just finished mafia 2, the cutscenes were good, story was good, gameplay was alright, but theres one thing that pisses me off, every open world 3 person game should have this, and its called, free roam, and mafia 2 doesnt have it, sure you might say they are sticking on the story, thats true, but yakuza was an open world game that more likely sticks with the story, but it has a free roam option, so why couldnt they make one?

  • I wish I could still do that.

But yeah, it sounds annoying. Half the fun of those games is their sandbox nature, where you can just forget the story and missions for a while and mess around doing your own thing. Sounds like they didn't have the confidence in the living, breathing world they'd created to expose it to that kind of exploration and scrutiny.

I've just had my first go on Bioshock, and it may be my last for a while. I don't doubt popular opinion on it, but it didn't grip me within the short space of time it took for me to get stuck not knowing where I was supposed to be going. So I don't really have the impetus to run around getting more and more frustrated like I would in a game that I'd been enjoying so far, knowing that it was worth my while to persevere with a boring goose chase.

Misremembering your recommendation gungrave, I've now had a few goes on Def Jam: Fight for New York. The graphics and presentation are pretty great and the action's fluid, but I get a little frustrated by the controls which I put down to the GameCube pad being terrible. They're faultless on paper, but the cheap and springy nature of the pad's shoulder buttons makes them unresponsive in a pinch.

If I remember correctly then there should be a raised room behind you that you can access, there is a switch in there to open the Emergency Access door? But I don't remember anything after or before that.

There was a sort of balcony above the doorway that the doctor sealed himself behind, but I didn't know how to get up there.

I've now had a go on gungrave's real recommendation, True Crime: New York City, and it seems to be pretty good after the tedious training intro. It has some new things that aren't in Grand Theft Auto, making the most of the fact that you play a cop rather than an out-and-out gangsta. And I'd forgotten how much fun it is to just soar down the city streets in a game like this. A lot of the environment looks very similar though, obviously, after playing GTA IV. Even the parasols on the hotdog stands look eerily familiar.
