Quote from: Telegraph.co.uk
Iran has demanded an apology from a team of visiting Hollywood actors and movie industry officials saying films such as "300" and "The Wrestler" were "insulting" to Iranians. [...]

Iranians also criticised "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke as a rundown professional wrestler who is preparing for a rematch with his old nemesis 'The Ayatollah'.

During a fight scene, "The Ayatollah" tries to choke Rourke with an Iranian flag before Rourke pulls the flagpole away, breaks it and throws it into the cheering crowd.

People are too sensitive. I don't know how often we hear about some country being offended because something related to their country or people in some way didn't heavily promote them as being awesome.

They're not worthy of the space they're given on pages, blogs, and posts.

Just watched it last night.  Here is an email I sent to a friend describing my opinions on it.  These are not really storyline details, but more from a wrestling fan:

Quote
I got it on ppv last night.  It was actually pretty good.  I will not get into the details, but here are some interesting points:

- They actually used RoH and CZW.  They mentioned them by names and even used some of their wrestlers.  For instance, Ernest Miller (who goes by The Ayatollah in the movie) palling around with Nigel McGuiness and calling him his old buddy Nigel.

- There was also a match with The Ram versus Necro Butcher in CZW, which basically had everything that is wrong with wrestling, such as staples to the nipples

- Speaking of nipples, Marisa Tomei is in the movie, and she is topless, and she has her nipples pierced.  Pretty fucking sweet

- There is a dollar store scene, just like UPW

- I think the main shock in this movie, as a wrestling fan, is how much they exposed the business.  We have seen wrestling movies before.  They either act like wrestling is real or make it far faker than it is.  This one, from my knowledge, hit it dead on.  They showed the break of kayfabe and the planned matches, but also showed the pain.  When someone is ripping a thumbtack out of your back, you cannot fake the pain.

Now, from a WWE standpoint.  There were rumours that Vince did not like how this movie exposed the business.  If true, I completely understand.  This movie really did expose the business and it really did not do it in a very positive way.  Not saying it is wrong and not saying that it was not needed.  But the steroid and CZW scenes were definitely not positive factors.  Of course, CZW is just pure crap, so whatever.  But at the same time too, I think the movie gave credit to the wrestling scene.  As mentioned above, the "not too fake" and "not too real" and instead giving a VALID example of wrestling, I think can prove to show what wrestling really is instead of this bs of it being "fake" versus 'real."
