Hmm I don't know, shouldn't the passing of any human life be a travesty, no matter the complexion or arrangment of facial features and mounds of flesh?
The thing is the deaths of the beautiful people - and I use that as a term to describe those who are deemed attractive by the media and, as a result, the majority because of physical beauty, wealth, or popularity - are always considered to be much more important when they occur.
How many times has something bad happened to someone who just so happened to be what society finds to be very attractive and it gets all the coverages it can get, while something worse happens to someone who isn't quite as attractive of a subject, so they get shafted.
These five women were ordinary for the most part, except they were all beautiful, popular, and not in the "lower class". They die in an accident, something that happens everyday many times a day often times in much worse ways than this, and they're given all the attention news outlets and their town can afford. The same shit or worse happens to someone who isn't considered quite as attractive a subject, and they're ignored or talked about on a much smaller level.
The only time the imperfects of society can hope to rival the amount of attention the beautiful people receive is when they give in to their darker emotions and make themselves the villain by acts of violence.
These five women are a perfect representation of this warped sense of importance force fed to the citizens of the world by the media and the people who proudly bend over for the opinions of the majority.
So maybe he was raising the question, well,if the people who died in the crash were 4 social outcasts that graduated rather than cheerleaders or football players who graduated, would the media have even carried the story, seeing as this isn't an unprecedented occurence?
That is exactly what I'm saying/asking.
If the victims were people treated as "nerds", "geeks", or "freaks" by their peers and community, would the reporters and town even care? And if they would, how far would they take their grief? How long would they cry their tears?
These five die in an event that happens many times in a way that isn't really anything odd or rare, and yet they're treated as if they were the world's leading humanitarians; perfect individuals. They are treated as if there isn't enough time in the world to speak of how wonderful they were.
