Me and Illy found a flat we wanted, and were told we had to give the estate agent £120 so they could do reference checks and credit checks etc. for the landlord. Well, we're in our first jobs working part time, so I knew we were going to fail the checks. I mean just on the fact we've been working 6 months and one of the questions the form asked our employer was whether we'd been there 12 months or more. So despite the fact we know we can afford the rent and everything, we've failed that check and they've said they want a guarantor that would pay the rent if we fail to. We had this before with our previous flat, but we were students then so we just accepted it and everything was fine. But now it just makes me angry because they must think we're fools. We failed on 'affordability', well if we couldn't afford it we wouldn't be looking at the flat. Well whatever, I guess they have to do their checks. Annoyingly it means we have to pay another £60 to get our guarantor the same checks we had.

What really makes me angry though is that the landlord won't find better tenants than us. We don't drink, won't have parties, would rather go hungry than not pay the rent (we could pay rent and effectively live with Illy's parents if things somehow got really tough, even though it will never come to that because like I said, we're not stupid, we've done the math...) He'll never have any problems with us, and because we're having to go through this estate agents and their referencing company, "LetSure", he'll never know that. All he knows is that we fall under a certain bracket of income and we're therefore a 'risk' to him.

That's shitty, but you can't blame the guy for doing a check. What baffles me is my credit is far from great and every year the landlords perform a credit check on me before I sign a lease, and every year I pass. I'm thinking it has a lot to do with how poor everyone is around these parts; either that or it's my good looks.

I'm annoyed he didn't mention we'd have to pay another £60 if we needed a guarantor, he could have mentioned that first before we gave him any money.  Next time we can ask to be sure though so lesson learned.  We didn't have to pay for references in our last flat but we had to pay more for the deposit so guessing it was done there.

It's all non refundable as well, if they decide my dad doesn't have enough percentage of his pay available to pay the rent if we fail to then it's £180 gone and they'd obviously try get us to pay another £60 to reference check another person, or we'd be stuck living here.

It's been three days now and they still haven't sent the guarantor forms to Illy's Dad's email. The emails were instant with me and Illy and are obviously supposed to arrive pretty quickly because I've phone the agents twice now and they've been like "oh...that's weird". I've double checked an original email address, still got nothing, so thought maybe its that email address. So I phoned this morning to give them another one, and still no email.

What makes me angry most is that if there still isn't an email by 3pm I'm gunna go to the actual agent offices to try and sort out whats happening, but me constantly calling them and contacting them is making me feel like an annoyance. Our moving in day was going to be tomorrow though and thats looking increasingly unlikely.

And now, the email was received and sent off, but I've received an email asking for Illy's Dad's employee references, to an email account I set up in his Dad's name to see if the original email would arrive there. Basically, I think they've messed up again, don't realise it, Illy phoned them this morning and the agent said the insurance company are processing the guarantor stuff so it should all go ok, but I'm doubtful. Will probably be another week now of calling them and emails going back and forth to the wrong people and more confusion.

Getting seriously pissed off with Facebook right now. I'm was a member of a group on there that was solely for the posting of internet meme's/jokes/comedic images and such. When I joined this group it was 'private' and you had to request to see any info in it.. but since then someone has changed it to 'open' without me knowing.

Anyway, I posted an image that wasn't malicious, contained no nudity and no gore either.. and Facebook's suspended my account. And by that they mean that you can still get on Facebook and read everything, but they restrict certain features so that you can barely do anything. So I can't post statuses, can't post comments, can't post images. There's also no time period for this, they said it can last anywhere between a few hours and a few days.. and every time you try and use one of the blocked features then ban could be extended. Yet, I have no idea when it's over so the only way to find out is to try said features and risk incurring another extension.

The most annoying thing is myself and some people from my course are using a Facebook group currently to discuss a project we're working on.. and I can't post anything in there, so we're going to be way behind by the time this ban is lifted.

Illy's Dad failed the guarantor checks on 'affordability', like we did, somehow, even though he's worked there for ages and is full time, 8 hours a day... Which means we now have to pay ANOTHER £60 to get my brother to go through the same checks, which he'll definitely pass, but its a matter of whether or not he'll do it. He was my guarantor in our last flat (like Illy's Dad was his) and he was wary then, and only did it when I sent him all the rent money at once and I guess he felt guilty for not trusting me in the first place and gave it me back.

And I think this has effected Illy's mental state beyond repair. He's running around topless, and now he's fallen to the floor while the dog pulls down his pants.

Every day this week we've said "worst day ever" as more and more things go wrong - well today really is the worst day ever.

I'm just going to hang myself in the cleaning cupboard at work tonight.

I feel like the process you guys have to go through to get an apartment is a total ripoff. Here, if they require a credit check, they have like a ten dollar application fee - nothing nowhere as steep as what they are charging you guys.

Just move to America and get a place no questions asked!
