I think you could be right, Phillip. Angle has proven much more in both amateur and professional wrestling than Brock Lesnar. People acclaim Lesnar's meteoric rise in WWE, but let's not forget that in Kurt Angle's debut year, the Olympic gold medalist won the European, Intercontinenal and WWF/E Championships, and even held the IC and Euro titles simultaneously during that period. Not even Brock has matched that kind of early success - he had his chance at the IC Title, against Rob Van Dam, but it was RVD who left town with the gold.
However, Lesnar's track record cannot be overlooked. He has only been pinned once in WWE, under extremely dubious circumstances, and has never been made to submit. Could Kurt Angle's ankle lock be the hold that finally makes Brock tap? Maybe - it was enough to overcome the legendary Hulk Hogan. But it was Lesnar who almost ended Hogan's career last fall, manhandling the Hulkster like perhaps no other giant in the history of the sport. Brock Lesnar is not just any competitor - he is quite possibly the most dominant force in WWE today.
With that in mind, most people will look at Brock as the favorite at WrestleMania. In a fair fight, I think Lesnar has the advantage. Angle may have won Olympic gold, but Lesnar's amateur success has come far more recently than the three-and-a-half year pro's. But with Team Angle and indeed all of Paul Heyman's associates waiting in the wings to stack the odds against Brock, this colossal championship match really could go either way.
